Teriyaki Chicken Recipe



Teriyaki is a cooking method used in Japanese cuisine. In this Teriyaki Chicken Recipe, chicken meat is marinated in Teriyaki sauce and then grilled or broiled.

The word teriyaki comes from the noun teri which refers to a shine or luster given by the sugar content in the tare, and yaki is the cooking method of grilling or broiling. Traditionally the meat is dipped in or brushed with sauce several times before and during cooking.

The essential ingredient in Teriyaki sauce is mirin which is a sweet rice wine.Many recipes now use sherry instead or sake with sugar. This Chicken Recipe uses bottled Teriyaki sauce which is available at most grocery stores. The bottled sauce makes it a quick and easy recipe and a tasty chicken breast recipe.

Serves 6

Teriyaki Chicken Ingredients

  • 6 chicken breasts with or without skin
  • 4 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • a few watercress sprigs for garnish

How To Cook Teriyaki Chicken

Lay the chicken breasts in a baking dish and pour the teriyaki sauce over them adding the grated ginger.Marinade for 30 minutes, then bake the chicken in the marinade at 200C (400 F) until cooked through, about 15 minutes.
