How to Cook Bourbon Chicken

Here's an excellent Bourbon Chicken Recipe that has a very similar taste to the Bourbon chicken from Chinese take-outs. Now we're generally don't do much 'take-out' but when we do, Chinese food is always on the top of the list of possibilities and Bourbon chicken is usually a good choice.

Bourbon Chicken is where Southern Cooking meets Chinese Cooking..

bourbon chicken recipe

It's a delicious chicken breast recipeand a favourite with most people, especially kids.

For those who don't know, Bourbon, technically, is a type of whiskey, made in America primarily from at least 51% corn mixture and named after Bourbon County, Kentucky. Just to confuse matters, all Bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is Bourbon.

If you are on a gluten-free diet then I've seen gluten free soy sauce in the grocery store but have no idea what difference it would make to the recipe.

How To Cook Bourbon Chicken

Melt butter with olive oil in a heavy skillet. Sauté garlic and onion until onion is transparent. Remove garlic and onion from skillet with slotted spoon.

Brown chicken breast halves on both sides. Remove chicken from skillet. Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet and stir until well mixed and dissolved.

Add back the chicken breasts, onion and garlic. Cover and cook over very low heat until chicken is tender and done, about 20 to 25 minutes. The bourbon sauce should have a glaze texture but if it doesn't thicken, you can mix in a bit of cornflour to thicken it slightly. Some people prefer it a bit thicker over their rice.

Makes 2 to 4 servings, depending upon appetites.

Notes:

This Bourbon Chicken Recipe has received many rave reviews. The bourbon imparts a very slight sweetness that combines wonderfully with the garlic and onion. The sauce goes very nicely with rice.
